All members are urged to actively participate in the NCCJA awards process by submitting names of nominees to the NCCJA President.
Our association desires to keep the awards process a vibrant one. Please consider making a nomination for one of the following awards. These awards are generally given at our annual conference. A nominee does not have to be a current (paid-up) member of NCCJA, but the person making the nomination MUST BE.
STUDENT AWARDS
The James B. Merritt Student Excellence Awards
Named in honor of Professor Merritt, co-founder and past-president of the Association, a life member of the Association, and executive with the Police Benevolent Association. For each of the three categories listed below, $100.00 scholarships will be awarded. Awards will be based on demonstration of excellence in character, leadership on campus, community service, and academic success.
- N.C. community college or technical institute student in a criminal justice program or related program.
- N.C. four-year college or university student in a criminal justice program or related program.
- N.C. graduate university student in a criminal justice or related program
The John C. McCollister Student Paper Awards
Named in honor of the late Dr. Jay McCollister, a co-founder and past president of the Association, and professor emeritus at Pfeiffer College. $100.00 is awarded to a student presenting an essay or report, selected according to the guidelines below, best relating empirical research to an applied criminal justice issue.
- N.C. community college or technical institute student in a criminal justice program or related program.
- N.C. four-year college or university student in a criminal justice program or related program.
- N.C. graduate university student in a criminal justice or related program

For contributions to Criminal Justice as a professional endeavor in N.C.
CAROLYN AND RICHTER MOORE CITIZEN AWARD
For outstanding private contributions to Criminal Justice in N.C.
